KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong (pic) wants the Pakatan Harapan-led Penang government to confirm if it had approved 39 housing projects in Tanjung Bungah.

Mah pointed out that the previous Penang chief minister, Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, only approved three housing projects in Tanjung Bungah during his entire tenure.

"Is this true? I don't want to make accusations. I only want answers. Did the approval of projects really increase by ten times?" asked Mah.

On Oct 21, a landslide at a Tanjung Bungah construction site killed 11 construction workers.

This was followed by another incident on Nov 5, where a landslide and sinkhole tore up a road in front of a row of newly-built luxury houses on a hillside in Tanjung Bungah, following floods that were described as the worst in the state's history.

Meanwhile, Mah announced that the Gerakan Youth chief and deputy chief as well as Wanita Gerakan chief and deputy chief would be fielded as candidates in the upcoming polls.

"We know that they have been working very hard. That's why they will be chosen as candidates," he said.

However, Mah did not reveal the seats where the four would be contesting, saying that they were waiting for the Barisan Nasional supreme council to finalise the list.

The Gerakan Youth chief for 2013-2016 is Tan Keng Liang and his deputy is Andy Yong Kim Seng, while Datuk Tan Lian Hoe heads Wanita Gerakan and Datuk Ng Siew Lai is the deputy chief.

Asked if he would be contesting in Penang, Mah merely said "I will let the party to decide".

The two-day Gerakan National Delegates Conference ended on Sunday.
